SEC Football: Janzen Jackson Dismissed from Vols, What It Means for SEC Race
All-SEC safety Janzen was dismissed from the Tennessee Volunteers this morning for unspecified reasons though it?s widely suspected that it has something to do with his withdrawal from the team this February.
Tennessee had hoped that Jackson would provide the team with one of the conference?s top secondaries. It now looks like that unit will only be average in Justin Wilcox?s second year at defensive coordinator.
The Volunteer?s SEC East title shot is now in serious jeopardy to say the least. South Carolina, Florida and Georgia were all ranked in the preseason Top 25 and will rely on their talented quarterbacks and wide receivers in order to win the division.
Despite being one of four teams in the country to play eight home games this season, Tennessee is now without a doubt on the outside looking in the conference race with a largely unproven offense and a defense that loses a lot of talent in the front seven.
While a bowl appearance is still likely for this team based on their schedule, an upper-level one is almost certainly out of the picture. Derek Dooley will, until proven otherwise, have to wait until next year to be a factor in the SEC.
